How ChatGPT created a new era of AI
Steve Jobs started a new era. Sam Altman did too.
Apple changed the world forever by introducing the iPhone. By making a computer that is small enough to fit in your pocket, Steve Jobs made many people further invest and look into technology. It's no doubt that Steve Job's invention is one of the reasons that A.I tools like ChatGPT were made.
ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence powered chatbot developed by OpenAI, isn't a exception. Following its release to the general public in November 2022, ChatGPT got 1 million users <5 days of their release. They reached the 100 million monthly users milestone just 3 months after.
A.I has helped ease the lives of many, helping with writing, code generation, and even summarizing lengthy pieces of information. ChatGPT came as a shock to the market but also a helpful tool to many – instead of surfing on the web for a answer to a question, ChatGPT has been convenient for many.
It's even affected the education scene – according to CNBC, almost half of U.S teachers and K12 teachers say that they are using ChatGPT weekly.
As a result, many companies started investing in artificial intelligence based companies and some even made their own, such as Google Gemini. And, that's not it. According to Exploding Topics, there are about 67,200 artificial intelligence startups worldwide at the moment, and since 2017, the amount of US AI startups have doubled.
In 2021, according to Exploding Topics, the A.I market was $95.6 billion. It's 2024 and it is reportedly $196.63 billion, and set to hit $1.85 trillion by 2030.
Advancements in artificial intelligence have been at its peak. From image generation with models such as DALLE-E to generative A.I, ChatGPT has truly created a era which has caused people to further investigate use cases of artificial intelligence and make their own language learning models (LLMs).
However, just like social media poses a risk with scams and cyberbullying, artificial intelligence does too. There are many concerns about data privacy & how your data is being used to train LLMs, copyright infringement, and how A.I can be misused to create illegal content.
