3 tips to appeal to Gen Alpha -- from a member of Gen Alpha
Here's 3 tips on how you can get a Gen Alpha following -- from Gen Alpha.
A lot of businesses are starting to target Generation Alpha, the newest generation succeeding Gen Z. Marketing to Generation Alpha is very different and requires different tactics – even when compared to Gen Z, due to Gen Alpha's age range and the technology Gen Alpha uses.
Gen Alpha is very different compared to the past generations. Gen Alpha prefers in-store shopping at places like Sephora instead of a candy shop. That's just a example.
I'll be diving into the HOW. HOW do you get us, a Generation Alpha audience to get interested in your products? This is coming from a member of Gen Alpha myself.
- Social Media
A majority of Gen Alpha uses social media, and if you're appealing to Gen Alpha, it's important to have social media. According to Morning Consult, 65% of people ages 8-10 use social media up to four hours a day, so it's important to have a presence on social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube to market yourself to Gen Alpha. One way to catch the attention of Gen Alpha is making humorous reels showcasing your product. This is something that Duolingo, an app designed to help people learn languages with ease, does with their social media. This has gave them an advantage; a lot of Gen Z/Gen Alpha is interested in such content, and Gen Z/Gen Alpha is more inclined to finding out more about you with this type of tactic. Remember, Gen Alpha has a short attention span, and according to the National Library of Medicine, Gen Alpha's attention span is about 5 seconds. You need to make the first 5 seconds interesting. Personally, I wouldn't watch a 30 second video advertising a company's product. It seems boring.
- Simplify your product's description
This is another thing that I think many businesses appealing to Gen Alpha fail to do. Simplify your product and what it does. It should be easy to remember what your product does. Don't over exaggerate what you do; keep it short and simple.
- Make it Interactive
This works well, especially if you're a non-profit organization. Encourage Gen Alpha to talk about your cause. If people think your cause is something that resonates with them, they'll often times spread the word about it.
These tips aren't really as hard as you think to implement, and are easy to do if you are targeting Gen Alpha.
